Is flow the secret to external results AND inner satisfaction?

I've been thinking, and chatting with some of my clients, about the concept of flow.

'Being in the zone'. That state of intense focus and absorption.

Flow vs ??? um...not flow....

What's the opposite of flow?

Pressure? Obligation? Distraction?

Creativity vs Consumption?

Perhaps it's easier to describe in situation...

It comes up for me when I have a list of things on my to-do list or scheduled into my calendar - all the things I want to do and I find myself running behind in my days.

5 minutes late all day to all the things (I'm not proud of this one and a little embassared to admit,

Often trying to fit more in.

'I'll just finish this'

Is it a case of being in flow or time/list pressure?

... to get things done and that little tick of dopamine when something is complete.....

that feeling of progress (ahh even saying it here gives me a little self-satisfying internal smile)

It could be me knowing the amount of energy it takes to get me back to this task. Just finishing this thing here in front of me because of the time it takes me to get back to it. But that then causes me to run behind.

A self awareness of what happens when I'm context switching.

All I can say is that I'm working on it.

I'm experimenting 😉

It also ties in with last week's letter about creating more S_P_A_C_E_ in my days.

Perhaps you're different and like to grind it out.

Production mode with a lesser reference to your internal state.

In which case maybe none of this conversation really resonates,

but I wonder for you, me, all of us...
